The Heroism of Brown
Left to its own devices,
Without comment or elaboration,Brown could appear commonplace.
Never gaudy,
It's a humble hue.
Human Beings nowadays
Rarely admit "from dust we were made";
We are gods
Forging our futures
With technology, ambition, limitless resources.
Brown will never do.
Emanations of inspired minds
Declare in digitized text:
Make the brown earth green.Turn the everyday into a rainbow.
Amidst the technicolor swirl of hustle,
Brown is forgotten.
A wiser eye
No numeric native perhaps, but still
Might regard the world around
And see a sun-bronzed brunette reads
A book, the pages the color of carmelized butter.
Or see a russet-haired boy
Climb tan-tiled stairs
In leather-soled shoes
Flinging dirt to the wind.
Sitting in a wooden chair made of walnut
Beside the window
Setting a mug of dark chocolate milk down
Upon a coffee-colored table
The one who has taken the time earlier
To observe the hairs as they shave
Will not need to describe
Brown's aurora borealis.
